EXCLUSIVE
INTERVIEW FROM
BROTHA ASH
PRODUCTIONS
WITH ACTOR IDRIS ELBA
I
had the opportunity to do a brief interview with
Actor Idris Elba from
the hit HBO TV series "The Wire"
fame and the hit movie "Daddy's
Little Girl".
With his hit movie in theatres all over the country, he is making
his rounds to meet and greet with fans everywhere.
Exclusive
Entertainment presented Idris Elba at DeJaVu in the Stripto a packed
house. This event was held February 23, 2007 and started at
9pm. Fans were anxious were to meet with Elba. He arrived about
12:30am and went straight to the DJ booth where he kicked it with
DJ GQ from WAMO 106.7FM for a minute before heading up to VIP.
Elba
is a British television, theatre and film actor who has starred
in both British and American productions. Idris is also a DJ under
the moniker DJ Big Driis, Big Driis the Londoner, and a hip-hop
soul recording artist. Born September 6, 1972 is he an only
of a Sierra Leone father and a Ghanian mother. We are familiar with
his TV and film credits, but his music is different from most hip
hop tracks you've heard before. The
IDRIS sound is a fresh take on fusing infectious beats with a unique
lyrical delivery, spat in a way that will definitely have your head
nodding before you are ultimately hooked. BIG MAN is produced
by one of the UK's hottest production team's - The Insomniax, who
musically shunned the 'instant fizz with a sparkly appearance' type
of Hip Hop to create a distinctive, unpretentious, standout sound
for Idris. Instantly recognisable as a mature flavoured sound, notable
tracks such as Me & Miss and Johnny Was
featuring UK soul artist Shaun Escoffrey serve to introduce us to
the lucid storyteller in IDRIS. So whilst tracks like 'The Burn'
& 'Rise honestly reveal the mindful side to this Londoner,
his attitude and lyrical style stir in a fresh and modern twist
to this exciting blend of Hip Hop. IDRIS cites the influence of
his music and sound as coming from having listened to over 5000
records (which stretches across several musical genres) in his Dj
crate alone. "My music is definitely from the root of Hip Hop,
but when you listen to my sound youll hear every type of music
from Reggae all the way through to Rock.
When
Elba arrived in the VIP section of DeJaVu, he was happy to see all
the people that came out to see him. When asked about being
on "The Wire" he said that does he not miss it. The hit
movie Daddy's Little Girl is something very special to him. "I
want Black men to love their kids by way of culture. Do not neglect
your family. I hate it when we do that", said Elba. "With
this movie, I want to enforce a positive image of black men".
He made it clear that he is very happy to be alive by saying, "Life
is short, Death is forever".
