Alliance for Police Accountability releases vote-by-mail PSA
Pittsburgh-based grassroots organization kicks off effort to encourage Pennsylvanians to vote by mail in the Tuesday, June 2, 2020 primary
PITTSBURGH, May 19, 2020 -The Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) announced the launch of a campaign to encourage voters in Pennsylvania to vote-by-mail in the June 2ndprimary to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic from suppressing the vote in communities of color across the state.
This morning, APA released a 60-second PSA #YourVoiceYourVote, which is a call to action for voters to make sure their voice is heard this election year despite current unprecedented times. #YourVoiceYourVote will be available on a variety of social media platforms including Facebook and YouTube.
Starting today, through the Tuesday, May 26, 2020 deadline to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot, APA will be engaging voters via virtual phone banks and online voter outreach to inform them about the new law allowing all Pennsylvanians to vote-by-mail. APA is planning a similar campaign for the fall election, anticipating continued social distancing guidelines as the scientific community develops treatments and a vaccine for COVID-19.
Brandi Fisher, president of APA, explained the sense of urgency as the May 26, 2020 deadline approaches to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot. “We saw what happened in states like Illinois and Wisconsin: long lines, voter fear, and mass confusion. We can avoid that in Pennsylvania if we ensure as many people as possible vote-by-mail and limit in-person voting on June 2nd to protect the public and essential election workers.”
The mission of the Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) is to bring the community, police, and government officials to a working relationship and put an end to racial profiling, police brutality, and injustice within the criminal legal system through advocacy, education, and policy.
