COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT ASSOCIATION PRESENTS
THE 4TH ANNUAL BLACK FAMILY REUNION
“Empowering Through Family, Community and Tradition"
AUGUST 4 & 5TH, 2007

With the mission to build healthy families and communities by way of activation, education and mobilization, the Community Empowerment Association, Inc. (CEA) over the last decade has been tirelessly serving thousands of disadvantaged and minority families throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area.

One of the major activities we sponsor has been the Black Family Reunion Festival. The festival is the biggest African American focused event in the Pittsburgh area. This year's free festival will take place the Saturday and Sunday, August 4th and 5th, in Mellon Park, located in the Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh. The purpose of the fun filled event is to bring together communities from the greater Pittsburgh area for two peaceful, uplifting and enjoyable days.

Last year the event was an outstanding success. With only about six weeks of planning, the turnout was over 2000 people. People of all ages were in attendance: this was truly a family event. With much more planning and new attractions for this years event, we expect anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 people to attend.

Events and activities include the "Peace in the Hood" Three on Three Basketball and Slam Dunk Tournament sponsored by Reebok and the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, performances of dance, jazz, R&B, spoken word, vendors, and health screenings. Another aspect that we will continue to have is Sistas circle, a forum where women in the community can come together and address issues within the community. Several activities for the children include mountain climbing, moon jump, and arts and crafts. In addition there will be some new additions to this year's event. Network tents, will be places where people interested in real estate, music, entrepreneurship, and other fields can learn from and partner with experts and professionals in those areas.

The Reunion will also have its version of family feud, where different families compete against each other on trivia.

"THE BLACK FAMILY REUNION "FAMILY FEUD"

KiKi (The Midday Chick) from WAMO 106.7FM will be broadcasting live. We have booked Warner Brothers recording artist Wiz Khalifa, Atlantic Record R&B Sensations Crave and critically acclaimed R&B Group Artistree.

We also have former Black Panther Chairperson Elaine Brown coming to speak. To kick off the festival we will be having a discourse surrounding the University of Pittsburgh's study "Pittsburgh's Racial Demographics: Differences and Disparities," at 9 O'clock Saturday Morning.
