Innuendos
swirled through the Peterson Event Center as many speculated as
to whether or not there would even be a show. At first, the venue
did not seem as if it would pull in a big crowd because it was 8
p.m. and the room was half-empty.
The show was scheduled
to start at 8 p.m. with Sisquo and Dru Hill scheduled to perform,
but they were a “no show.” Rumors were spreading that
this concert was not going to happen, but it did. Even though Sisquo
and Dru Hill did not appear, the concert was a complete success.
But nevertheless, it
was on with the show, billed as “Ladies Night” with
New Jack Swing singer Keith Sweat and Bell, Biv, DeVoe.
Ricky “Slick” Bell, Michael “Biv” Bivens,
and Ronnie “R.D.” DeVoe stepped on stage and opened
the show, setting up the sounds of things to come. The trio, who
first hit the charts in the 1980s as R&B boy band New Edition
with Ralph Tresvant as their lead singer, still had the moves that
made them famous 17 years ago.
