It was
a scene of thousands of people standing in line to see Senator Barack
Obama at the Mellon Arena.
"This
is history in the making and I would not have missed it for the
world," says Renee Knox
of East Liberty.
Doors opened
at 3pm and Barack hit the stage around 5:30pm. Before he gave his
speech, he was
introduced by the one and only Steelers President Dan Rooney.
The crowd broke out into a cheer
of "Here we go Steelers, Here we go,"
at the Mellon Arena.
Barack Obama's
speech was considered to be his "closing argument"
in this campaign.
The
vibe in the room was that of family and friends who were witnessing
history.
A
song called "Ain't No Stopping Us Now"
played in the background and some people in the crowd starting
snapping their fingers, dancing and singing along.
Bob
Casey, Gov. Ed Rendell let everyone know of their support for
Obama. Pittsburgh really stepped
up and came out in support as well.
When
Obama came to the stage, the crowd broke out into huge applause
and he started speaking right away.
"After
decades of broken politics in Washington, eight years of failed
policies from George Bush, and 21 months of a campaign that has
taken us from the rocky coast of Maine to the sunshine of California,
we are one week away from change in America," Obama said.
"Pittsburgh,
that is why we can't afford to slow down or let up one day or one
minute or one second in this final week. We got an election to win,"
Obama said.
There were alot
of children at the Obama rally. Most of the people wanted their
children to see the man who may become President of the United States.
For
those Barack supporters who did not make it to Mellon Arena, you
missed something historical and amazing. It was almost as if the
spirit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King,
Jr. was in Mellon Arena and made you proud to be BLACK.
