1ST EVER PITTSBURGH
HIP HOP AWARDS
by Staff Writer Ashley G. Woodson aka Brotha Ash
History
was made last night as The 1st Ever Hip Hop Annual Awards took place at
the Hilton Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh, PA. Dwayne
Muhummad, CEO of 360 Entertainment is to be congratulated for this historical
event. The hosts (pictured) Paradise "The Architect"
Gray and Grandmaster Melle Mel from Grandmaster and The Furious Five fame
set it off. Even though the show lasted longer
than expected, everyone who is anyone was satisfied without the outcome.
The first award given was to Legendary DJ Sly Jock for his continuing
contribution to Old School Hip Hop/R&B in the city of Pittsburgh.
All of the "Old Heads" came out and celebrated this historical
event such as my cousin Tuffy Tuff, DJ Nick Nice, Lady Fresh (Misfits
In the Attics), and they were honored for being the 1st to put Pittsburgh
Hip Hop on the map. Melvin Bradford aka "The Mel Man" was not
in attendance but he was honored and Curtis "CAZ" Boyd accepted
the award on his behalf. Melvin Plowden was also honored for being one
of the first to put the 'Burgh on the map with Hip Hop. For me,
it was a family reunion for those of us who were over 35 years of age.
It was great to see my cousin Tuffy Tuff, Gaylord, Adam Smith, The Sand
Man and the list goes on and on - this event was HISTORICAL. Even
"Hop" from the New Pittsburgh Courier was in attendance and
gave an award to Mrs. Rob Penny for her husband's contributions to the
city of Pittsburgh. I am glad that I was invited to be a part of it. The
New School cats performed and did their thing and showed us how far Hip
Hop has come in the 'Burgh. Brotha Ash
Productions congratulates
everyone who won and even those who did not. From what I seen last night,
EVERYONE WAS A WINNER!!!
