"Roots",
the highest rated mini-series of all time,
comes to TV One in its entirety to mark the 30th anniversary of
this epic saga about one family's journey from tribal Africa to
slavery to emancipation in the post-Civil War South.
This historic mini-series, adapted from Alex
Haley's best-selling book of the same name, dramatizes a century
in Haley's family history, beginning with the story of Kunta Kinte
(LeVar Burton), a young West African man who is captured
by slave traders in 1750 and sold into slavery.
The
story continues through the emancipation of Kunta Kinte's grandson,
Chicken George (Ben Vereen).
The all-star cast of "Roots" also includes Maya Angelou,
Cicely Tyson, John Amos, Richard Roundtree, Louis Gossett Jr.,
Ed Asner, Lloyd Bridges and Todd Bridges. In 1977, 85 percent
of homes in the United States tuned in to watch all or part of
"Roots." Tune in to TV One this Easter Sunday as
"Roots" captivates a whole new generation of audiences.
BROTHA
ASH
SPEAKS ON "ROOTS":
Watching "Roots" as a 10 year old
has changed my life forever. I was angry and upset on how our
people were treated like animals. It was a month or so before
I was able to calm down and get a grip. Roots also made me aware
of how strong our people were to endure such treatment. I am very
proud to be a "BLACK MAN" and watching this mini-series
had a lot to do with that. Hopefully the showing of "Roots:
30th Anniversary" will touch a whole "NEW" generation
the way it touched me 30 years ago. This is a "MUST SEE
EVENT" for all to watch.
